My Guide to Gorgeous Locks

Hair is probably the second most important thing to me after my skin. I take very good care of it and always have. I used to hate my curly hair when I was younger, but as I grew older I began to embrace my natural curls gracefully. Curly hair is difficult to maintain, at least more so than straight hair. For instance, you can't brush your curls once they're dry, it has a tendency for dryness and you need to apply some sort of styling product after you jump out of the shower.

If you're reading this and you have curly hair, here is something else to feel blessed about: those with straight hair spend hours and money trying to achieve curls, lose waves or a more voluminous, thick appearance to their flat hair (no offense, straight-hair gals). I even had a Keratin straightening treatment once because I wanted to "rock" short hair. That's when I really began to miss my curls. Luckily, they grew back, and I have a routine that makes my curls look awesome.

1. Investing in good shampoo and conditioner: Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner
I began using this duo four years ago and its been my favorite combo since. They're aimed for those with dry color-treated hair, though you can still use it even if you don't have color-treated hair. The shampoo is thick and different to all other shampoos I've tried. Due to its dense texture, you need less amount than an ordinary shampoo. Even though it's sulfate-free, it lathers and cleanses perfectly. It has a subtle lavender scent which I find captivating. The conditioner is my favorite because it smells like peppermint and envelopes your hair in this coolness you just have to experience yourself. It is so relaxing and so soothing on the scalp and even your back as you're rinsing off the product (if you have long hair, it feels SO good!) PS: Men love it, too!

2. Using an oil or serum after you jump out of the shower.
I've tried Moroccan Oil Treatment, Agave Hair Oil (sold at Sephora) and now I'm using Oribe Gold Lust. Out of all three previously mentioned, this one has the thinnest texture. I like to apply an oil from mid-shaft to ends after I (gently) comb my hair after getting out of the shower. Think of it as a serum for your hair -- it has a concentrated formula and penetrates deeply to nourish and heal.

If I am going to have a blowout, these would be my only two steps. I'm always left with touchable soft, silky hair.

If I am going to let my hair air-dry, I proceed to step 3.

3. Use a styling product for curly hair.
I've tried an array of products for curly hair. My holy grail is Moroccan Oil Curl Defining Cream. This is my second bottle but my first one lasted a little over a year (!). When I had shorter hair, a pump would do the job, but now I have really long hair and I use two pumps, though I divide it. I use one pump for half of my hair (left side), using my fingers to distribute the product and then I use a second pump for the other half of my hair (right side). I then let my air dry and I get the most bouncy, gorgeous, frizz-free curls that people always compliment.

Another great thing about this product is that second day hair and third day hair still look polished. In fact, sometimes my second day hair looks better than my first day hair.

Extra Tips for Curly Hair
- Avoid humid areas after you get out of the shower. Turn on the AC if needed until your hair is mostly dry.
- Don't wash it every day: use dry shampoo if you need to.
- Do a weekly intense treatment: I like to use coconut oil and sleep in in.

Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil Review

I've been a fan of hair oils or "serums" all my life. It's a must-have in my haircare routine because I always apply a dime size from mid-shaft to ends prior to using my favorite curly hair product, Moroccan Oil Curl Defining Cream

I've used the MoroccanOil Hair Treatment and the Agave Oil Treatment before, but before I ran out of the last one, I decided to get the Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Oil (100 ml / 3.4 fl. oz / $48) just to try something new and well, because I was already shopping at SpaceNK.

Texture-wise, Oribe's Gold Lust oil is thinner than both the MoroccanOil and Agave oil, which I prefer. I just use a dime size amount right after combing my hair as soon as I get out of the shower.

This oil makes my hair soft yet it's very lightweight, so it doesn't weigh it down. I also use a smaller amount just on my ends if I want to touch-up on hair day #2 or #3. If you have short hair, you might want to use less than a dime-size, otherwise, it will make your hair oily.

Oribe's signature scent envelopes your hair, and bonus: it's a scent that men love. Jasmine, edelweiss flower extract, shea butter, argan oil, lychee, sandalwood and bergamot are just some of its key ingredients -- an ingredient list I instantly fell in love with:

Cyclopentasiloxane, coconut alkanes, dimethiconol, caprylic/capric triglyceride, crambe abyssinica seed oil, coco-caprylate/caprate, limnathes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, argania spinosa kernel oil, tocopherol, parfum/fragrance, hordeum distichon (barley) extract, orbignya speciosa kernel oil, santalum album (sandalwood) extract, phellodendron amurense bark extract, astrocaryum murumuru seed butter, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, citrus limon (lemon) peel oil, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) fruit oil, ribes nigrum (black currant) seed oil, jasminum officinale (jasmine) oil, citrullus lanatus (watermelon) fruit extract, litchi chinensis fruit extract, lenotopodium alpinum flower/leaf extract, TBHQ, limonene, hexyl cinnamal, linalool, citral.

Overall this is an amazing hair oil that leaves my hair remarkably soft, bouncy and smelling ultra-sexy.

Travel Bag Essentials

I have made it a habit to carry with me minis because there is always that one time I need one of them, a couple or more. The cool thing about carrying a small travel bag in your purse is that no matter what the plans are that day, if they change, you'll have everything you need with you (say you decide to spend the night at a friend's house, or maybe the weather isn't cooperating with your skin and hair). Obviously this bag is customized to my own needs. The purpose of this post is to give you ideas of what to carry with you, not a specific guide of what you need.

Skin: I keep a sample of Tatcha Camellia Cleansing Oil because it is strong stuff. It will get rid of any waterproof makeup I'm wearing. I also like to keep a small cleanser, in this case Origins Checks and Balances, because I like to double-cleanse. Moisturizing is key to me, both the eye area and the face/neck, so I always make sure I always have a few samples of those in there (Caudalie Premier Cru The Eye Cream, Origins GinZing and High-Potency Night-A-Mins shown in picture). And of course, Caudalie Beauty Elixir is a must in my hand-bag as this instantly refreshes with it's minty scent.

Hair: I love that Dry Bar offers a travel-size of their Detox Dry Shampoo. How clever. This dry shampoo will instantly add volume, freshness while getting rid of oil. Oribe Cote D'Azur is basically perfume for your hair, but a must if you're going on a date or if you've been in a bar or around friends who smoke, gross.

Teeth: Very important. I have the habit of flossing after every meal. I personally cannot stand the feeling of food between my teeth. A toothbrush, toothpaste and mouthwash always come in handy, especially if you're spending the night outside of home or if your meal at the restaurant has too much garlic.

Miscellaneous: I've worn contacts since the age of nine, yes, nine! I always carry eye drops with me as it is very important to lubricate the eyes throughout the day. And a Q-tip. I always have a Q-tip with me. This is such a handy tool to touch up eye-makeup throughout the day. Say your mascara smudged a bit, or you have, you know, things going on in the inner corner -- don't stick your finger, use a Q-tip.

Minty Goodness

Peppermint is my favorite essential oil and if there's something I love is searching for beauty products that contain this ultra-refreshing ingredient.

Now I know there are some people who aren't too keen on it, but this post is for those who love the ooh-ahh cooling feeling peppermint oil provides which both men and women can enjoy.

These are products I always use after a very, very long/stressful day. Enjoy!

The Hair Update

I wrote a lengthy post a few weeks back on how to make your hair grow quicker. Here's a quick hair update with before and after photos. I've been following the same routine I recommended on that post.

How To Make Your Hair Grow Quicker

I've always thought that one of the biggest ironies in life is wanting what we can't have at the moment. And when it comes to hair, this is clearly evident. The times when women with straight hair have come to me and said, "You hair is so beautiful! I wish I had your curls!" have been many, and I always tell them, "How about I give you mine and you give me yours?" Again, we always want what we can't have!

I'm pretty sure that those with long hair who are reading this have found themselves staring at short hair do's, reminiscing the times when your head felt lighter. The freshness of having short hair is very appealing.

On the other hand, there are women with short hair who love the edginess of it, yet suddenly snap out of the short-hair-euphoria and wish that their hair grew ten inches long overnight. While such thing is impossible, there are things you can do to help stimulate hair growth.

I posted a picture on Instagram a few weeks back of a before and after picture of my hair, and I had many followers ask what my "secret" was. Being a naturally-curly hair gal, haircare has been a pretty big and experimented area in my life. I hope that this post gives you a few ideas on things you can do to make your hair healthier and fuller, while at the same time, speeding up its growing process. Enjoy.

Keeping Curly Hair Soft and Nourished

If you have wavy or curly hair, we can relate. Finding the right products are hard, especially when it comes to styling. Some leave our hair crispy, wet-looking, sticky. I've lost track of how many hair products I've used in my lifetime. If this sounds like you, keep reading.

A Savior For Wavy or Curly Hair

If you have wavy or curly hair, I feel you. We don't have the luxury of jumping out of the shower and not putting anything on our hair. Our hair needs maintenance - whether it's adding a serum, a leaving in conditioner or styling lotion/gel, depending on the hair's texture.

My hair is neither thin nor thick. It's kind of in between. For many months, I had stuck to a simple combo: The Kerastase Elixir Ultime - which is a serum with...silicones, and the L'oreal Paris Ever Pure Moisture Leave-In Conditioner with Rosemary Mint. I would add a pump of the Elixir Ultime from mid-shaft to ends and then I would use half a pump of the L'oreal leave in conditioner to "scrunch" my curls. The finish would be soft curls, but they could get a bit crunchy if you add too much of the leave in conditioner - which is actually a light gel.

If you happen to live in the US or you're visiting soon, you should check this product out at Whole Foods.

What is it?
Desert Essence Coconut Soft Curls Hair Cream: A moisturizing leave-in conditioner which nourishes and strengthens wavy or curly hair while adding soft definition.

What is the texture like?
Creamy.

How do you use it?
Apply on damp or dry hair. I usually comb my hair, and add a pea-sized amount to half of my hair and then another pea-sized amount to the other half of my hair (while wet).

Who would like this?
Women who have wavy or curly hair and would like something lightweight, yet anti-frizzing and texturizing.

It's good to know that...
- It's 100% Vegan
- It's rich in coconut oil, aloe vera, vitamin E, Vitamin B5, Black Oat, Nopal Extract and many other plant extracts that nourish, smoothen and strengthen the hair.
- Wheat, Gluten and Silicone-Free
- A little bit goes a long way
- It smells like coconut... yum!

My Personal Opinion
This has replaced my old combo. I now jump out of the shower and just use this to style my hair. Today was the ultimate test: it was my sister's birthday and we walked about a mile and a half with Florida humidity while my hair was wet (one of my biggest pet peeves). I was very impressed at how my locks dried soft and frizz-free (no crunchiness or wet looking hair). Love it, and strongly recommend it.

Huge Beauty Haul

Hi dolls!

I have made a video for you about my haul. Initially, it was going to be a blog post, but I felt like making a video.

Products I didn't mention in the video are the Koh Gen Do Cleanser, just because I have not used it yet and I bought it because I forgot to bring my Bioderma Sensibio. I'm using something else at the moment to remove my makeup, but I got a small bottle of the Koh Gen Do cleansing water to correct any mistakes while I am doing my makeup and my family's makeup for my brother's wedding.

I also didn't include my new Mac Palette. I got mostly neutrals. I have to depot the ones I have at home when I get back.

Shades in no particular order: Wedge, Ricepaper, Shroom, Saddle, Soft Brown, Samoa Silk, Beautiful Iris, Stars and Rockets

Onto the video now:

Super Sephora Haul!

Hi dolls! And guys if you read me, too.

I have no idea how I'm still awake. It is 9:45pm Eastern Time and I've been awake since 2AM. Yup. The flight went fine. The jump from Maracaibo to Miami is pretty quick - two hours and forty minutes.
I told you I was bringing all of you with me, so I'm taking as many pics as I can!

First of all, here are some pictures I took off the plane. This is the Caribbean Sea.

This is the view from our condo. I have so many memories of this place... I've been coming here since I was a newborn!

The area is called Aventura - it's very safe and quiet. I love it because you can walk at any time of the day. My mom, my sister and I took a shuttle to Aventura Mall which is a mile away, and we came back walking at 8pm.

Now onto the haul...

I got to the mall and went straight to Sephora! I wanted someone to pinch me... these vacations are my only time to shop because everything is too overpriced in Venezuela. Aside from that, you can barely find anything.

I'm a VIB member, which means "Very Important Beauty Insider". You get a few extra perks like discounts, invitations to private events, etc. I got a one on one session with a beauty adviser who was so kind. She gave me tons of advice on skincare and haircare. I talked to her about my blog and about my passion for skincare and makeup, and she gave me tons of samples (you'll see that at the end).

Please excuse my lousy pictures. I took them with my phone.

The lady strongly suggested the Clarisonic. She said it really makes a difference in ones' skincare regimen. She advised me to go with the cheapest one, because it gets the job done. She used it on me today and it felt quite nice.

The lady also put this mask on my face, and WOWZA! My skin was glowing afterwards. She left it on for thirty minutes and then peeled it off. It hurts a wee-bit when its being peeled, but it's tolerable. This is a detoxifying mask.

There are SO many face oils in the market right now. I told her I was confused because there are people raving so much about Josie Maran's Argan Oil, Marula Oil, the one by Nude, one by Fresh. She recommended me the one by Fresh (I love the brand anyway) and she added a few drops of this on my face after removing the mask. My skin was pink and glowing. Loved it, so I got it.

She also applied this Ojon hair mask and told me to leave it on overnight. She even braided my hair :)

I needed a cleanser for my to use with my Clarisonic, so I got the Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel. I had tried this on a kit before and loved how a little went such a long way. It also has glycolic acid = exfoliating = glowing skin.

This product by Kate Somerville is one I had been wanting to try out. It's supposed to be amazing to clear out nasty pimples.

Another product with glycolic acid, the Perricone MD Firming Facial Toner. This brand is the most sold in Sephora.

And more hair stuff. I was hesitant about this one... have any of you tried this? I saw it on an infomercial the first time... and I'm always dubious when it comes to infomercials. A lot of them seem fake to me. But after reading many, many reviews online before coming to the States, and after noticing there was a try-it-out-kit, I decided to get it. According to the Sephora website:

What it does:
Cleanse, condition, nourish, and repair your locks with this collection of WEN favorites for all hair types. The five-in-one Cleansing Conditioner will pamper and invigorate your stressed-out tresses with its luxurious formula of herbal extracts like aloe leaf juice and sweet almond oil. The Re Moist Intensive Hair Treatment is a super-nourishing, weekly mask that promises to give your hair more body and a beautiful, healthy shine. The Replenishing Treatment Mist is a lightweight, hydrating formula specially designed as a quick pick-me-up to increase volume and body between washes.

This set contains:
- 12 oz Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner
- 2 oz Sweet Almond Mint Re Moist Intensive Hair Treatment
- 2 oz Sweet Almond Mint Replenishing Treatment Mist

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Dyes
- Petrochemicals
- Phthalates
- Triclosan

And finally, THE SAMPLES!!!!! She gave me tons! I will be reviewing all of these products individually in a few months to give you proper and genuine opinions.

Enough for tonight. I should take a nice warm shower and go straight to bed. My eyes are achy.

Have you tried any of these products?

Tresemme Nourishing Rituals Liquid Gold Shine Therapy Review

Quick post just to briefly tell you about a product I've been loving - the Tresemme Nourishing Rituals Liquid Gold Shine Therapy!

What is it?
A lightweight conditioning treatment that helps rejuvenate tired, dull-looking hair.

What is the texture like?
Creamy but not greasy.

It's good to know that...
This is a product you can use before a special event to have silky, smooth hair in very little time.

How do you apply it?
Apply a pump or more (depending on hair length, I like to use two pumps) on hair after shampooing concentrating on the mid-shaft to ends. Leave it on for 3-5 minutes, rinse and style as usual.

Who would love this?
- Hair product junkies.
- Those whose hair lacks luster and shine.
- Those who don't like to spend much time on their hair (this is a very quick treatment)
- People on a budget.

Will I re-purchase this?
Yes. I love how manageable and soft my hair is after using this. It is a treat for my curls. I personally love Tresemme and their philosophy - getting salon quality products at an affordable price.

The results:

Have you tried Tresemme? Do you like any of their products?

Current Hair Treatment

Hello everyone!

As I previously mentioned, I'm currently growing out my hair. I went for a short cut around five months ago, and it made me miss my long locks! Now I've been into treatments to stimulate the hair growth. Luckily, it has worked.

I recently finished a Swiss Just Intensive Scalp Treatment, which worked wonderfully. I loved that it was rich in castor oil - great for hair growth!

I now began a Klorane treatment which was developed for women who are suffering fromr hair loss or slow hair growth due to hormonal issues such as stress or pregnancy. I'm not stressed and I'm sure not pregnant, but hey - anything that will stimulate the hair growth, my scalp with gladly accept!

This is the product itself:

Klorane promises to not just stimulate hair growth, but also make it stronger and fuller-looking.

Klorane no sólo promete estimular el crecimiento del cabello, sino también fortalecerlo.

One box contains one month of treatment. Three months are advised for best results.

Three vials are to be used per week. The box comes with twelve vials which you shake and then pour and massage onto your scalp.

What I Used On My Hair Tonight / Lo Que Utilice En Mi Cabello Esta Noche

About 1/4 of this Alfaparf Cioccolato Vial - a hydrating lotion loaded with cocoa goodies to strengthen and soften the hair cuticle. And it does smell like chocolate. Yum!

Alrededor de 1/4 de esta ampolla de Alfaparf - una loción rica en cacao para fortalecer y suavizar la cutícula del cabello. Y huele a chocolate! Divino!

Rusk's Deep Shine Lustre - a lightweight cream you can use on damp or dry hair. It contains marine extracts and lipids to nurture the hair. The scent reminds me of the ocean. A bonus: it contains UV inhibitors. This is great for a day at the beach or pool!

The combination of these two products left my skin ultra smooth!

La combinación de ambos productos me dejo el cabello súper suave!

Have a lovely night everyone! xoxo

Que tengan una maravillosa noche! xoxo

Kerastase Nutritive Masquintense Review

Sunday Pamper!

Kerastase is a worldwide known hair product owned by L'oreal that has a vast amount of ranges depending on your concern. I had used it many years ago and loved it but then switched it up as hair can get "used to" what you put on it. Since I'm attempting to grow out my hair, I've come back to it to assure my locks grow healthy.

Kerastase Nutritive Masquintense comes in two formulations: one for thin hair, and one for thick hair. I happened to choose the one for thick hair just because it sounded richer - who knows.

If you're interested in it, keep on reading!
